A block long and a world wide...
JROTC Mission
The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to become better citizens. JROTC teaches its cadets how to become effective leaders, act responsibly, and provide beneficial services to the community.

Our focus is to develop our students to their fullest potential for post-secondary education and prepare them to be better citizens by utilizing various components of the military model. We accomplish this by delivering meaningful instruction by a professional staff of military instructors and a comprehensive, technology driven curriculum. It is also our intent to socially and personally develop our students through numerous competitive and non-competitive events such as summer camp, leadership camp, sports challenge, orienteering, local drill competitions, field trips, and more. We have numerous teams, i.e. Drill, Color Guard, Raiders, Orienteering, Archery, Drum & Bugle, which compete against other high schools throughout the city and the state. JROTC Cadets also have opportunities to earn full scholarships that can be used at hundreds of Colleges and Universities throughout the nation, and full tuition waivers for Illinois State Colleges and Universities.

Beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, JROTC became an approved course within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP). Students in 9th Grade this year, and 9th and 10th Grades the following years can take JROTC as an approved IB course.
