Landmark Building
Carl Schurz High School is located on the northwest side of Chicago at the corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Addison Street in Chicago, Illinois. It opened its doors for the first time on the first Monday in September of 1910 to a group of 1031 students. The first principal of the school was Mr. Walter F. Slocum. The school grew so rapidly that in 1915 the Addison wing was completed to provide additional classrooms. In 1925, the Waveland wing with the auditorium and the triangle were completed bringing Schurz to its current size and configuration. It is a Chicago Landmark and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
